Pharmacies

Pharmacies in the U.S. are licensed to safely dispense and sell prescriptions to patients who need to take medicine to be healthy. If you need a prescription filled during your stay, your J-1 visa insurance will usually cover your prescription medicine. If you have come to the U.S. knowing that you will need prescription medicine dispensed to you while you are here, please speak with your sponsor who can guide you on the best practices to acquire your medicine.

If you become sick or injured during your stay and visit a doctor, that doctor will be responsible for writing you a prescription for any medication you may need. You will then need to bring your prescription paperwork, insurance card and proof of identification to a local pharmacy for your prescription to be filled.
