Dentists

Sometimes you cannot avoid a visit to the dentist. During your stay in Maine, if you have a dental emergency, schedule an appointment to see a dentist immediately. Your employer will understand your need to take care of your health and it will be okay to miss some time from work to take care of yourself. If you have a dental emergency, also make sure to tell your sponsor.

Dental emergencies include:

  • A tooth that has been knocked out, broken or chipped
  • A toothache that is impacting your health
  • Gum or mouth infections
  • A mouth injury
  • Unbearable mouth pain or unusual swelling

If you encounter a dental emergency, the best place in the area for you to receive dental care will be at UNE’s Oral Health Center (Urgent Care) in Portland, Maine. The dental services here are available to non-established patients. This urgent care operates from Monday-Thursday and emergency appointments can be made at 8am or 1pm on a first come, first serve basis. You must bring your identification (passport) and payment is due at time of service.

*Ask your employer for help with planning your transportation to Portland for your appointment.
