How the Cost of Our Community Is Shared
Old Orchard Beach is a uniquely diverse community, with a mix of year-round residences, seasonal homes, short-term rentals, campgrounds, and businesses. While approximately 9,000 people call OOB home all year long, our population can swell to more than 150,000 residents and visitors on a beautiful summer day.
Providing the services needed to support our community—from public safety and roads to schools and other municipal services—comes at a cost. Property taxes provide a significant portion of the revenue needed to pay for those services, and that cost is shared among all property owners.
But how is each owner’s share determined?
The budget determines how much must be raised.
Assessments determine how that burden is divided.
