General Assistance Notice
The municipality of Old Orchard Beach administers a General Assistance (GA) Program for all persons who are eligible pursuant to the standards provided in GA ordinance, state law (22 M.R.S. §§ 4301-4326), and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regulations. Copies of the Municipal Ordinance and General Assistance statutes are available, upon request, for public inspection at the Town Hall and the Recreation Building.
Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may obtain an application during the regular business hours of Monday, Wednesday-Friday from 8a-4p and Tuesdays 8a-6p. Applications are accepted and processed Monday-Thursday during the hours of 9am-4pm. Applicants are encouraged to call and schedule an appointment ahead of time by calling 207-937-5637.
In the event of a LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCY, occurring outside of normal business hours applicants may contact Old Orchard Beach Police Dispatch by dialing 207-934-4911.
The municipality’s General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application.
