Social Services Navigator Olivia Dubois Begins Work Supporting Old Orchard Beach Police Department

Chief Elise Chard is pleased to share that Olivia Dubois has joined the Old Orchard Beach Police Department as the Social Services Navigator, assisting community members in need of support.

Olivia Dubois joined the Police Department on Feb. 6, coming from Sweetser Crisis Services, where she worked as a Crisis Intervention Specialist. As a crisis worker, Dubois spent time working with individuals in an emergency room setting and out in the community throughout York County. Dubois obtained her bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences with a focus in Public Health from the University of Southern Maine.

Dubois will assume a range of responsibilities as Social Services Navigator here in town:

  • Connect community members with available local or state services, around issues such as mental health, substance misuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, bullying, or suicidal ideation.
  • Work with the local school district to ensure wellness and prevention education.
  • Work with the Town’s General Assistance Coordinator.
  • Work with Town departments to identify and assist residents in need.
  • Serve as a co-first responder with public-safety agencies when necessary.

Dubois states “we all have difficult times, and finding the right resources begins with asking for help. I have the privilege and time to be able to sit and talk with people in the community. Conversations I have with folks are not open to the public, completely voluntary and require no insurance.”

Dubois is excited to give back to the community she grew up in. She was a student athlete here in Old Orchard Beach and worked for the Recreation Department for many years forging relationships with multiple families. Dubois states “I hope to be a friendly face around town, a person that community members can trust and to be an advocate for whoever needs it”.
